a glut of goldfinches

For years they didn't come near our feeders but this year we've seen loads of them

The juveniles don't have red on their faces.

More butterflies

At last a few butterflies . . .

tortoiseshell on gravel path

red admiral on a buddleia bush

I'm quite intrigued by the spiral of the coiled proboscis.
I also saw lots of peacocks and several whites and yesterday a blue (holly blue possibly, but no pic).

Duddington pics compared.

A photograph from the 1960s - taken on film by Henry Wilson Hamill
This was taken almost from the same spot - at a different season and time of day
Here the houses are not obscured by the trees, and can be compared with the earlier photograph.

Moth

This little fellow was on the window frame, so i thought I'd take a quick snap before letting him or her out.  Very small - about 1 cm along the bottom of the triangle.

Poppies

The field just outside Gretton, on the road to Harringworth is stunning again this year.  It's visible as a patch of scarlet from the other side of the valley.

Poppies, meadow cranesbill and an unidentified white umbellifer.
